FIU Kingdom Seminar 2026

ORANJESTAD – On Monday, October 19, 2026, the opening of the 2026 Kingdom Financial Intelligence Units (FIU) Seminar took place at the Hilton Aruba Caribbean Resort.

The three-day seminar, organized by FIU-Aruba in collaboration with the Financial Intelligence Units of the Netherlands, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten, focuses on strengthening the joint fight against money laundering, terrorist financing, and other forms of financial crime.

The Minister of Finance, Economic Affairs, and Primary Sector, Geoffrey Wever, officially opened the event. During his speech, he emphasized that economic innovation and financial integrity must go hand in hand:

"Aruba focuses on a modern and innovative financial sector, in which digitalization, FinTech, and new technologies contribute to economic growth. However, innovation must go hand in hand with security, reliability, and integrity. A solid financial sector is an essential condition for sustainable economic development," stated Minister Wever.

The Minister also highlighted the concrete commitment of his ministry to strengthening FIU-Aruba. Recently, more than Afl. 4 million was made available to modernize FIU-Aruba's information technology systems. This investment will enable the organization to process financial information more securely, analyze complex cash flows, and exchange information more effectively with both national and international partners.

However, technology alone is not enough. To combat financial crime effectively, close collaboration among FIUs, supervisory authorities, financial institutions, investigative agencies, and the Public Prosecutor's Office remains indispensable.

"Financial crime knows no borders. Therefore, our collaboration, knowledge, and information sharing must also transcend borders. Within the Kingdom, we possess valuable expertise and experience that we can share to strengthen one another," Minister Wever added.

The seminar brings together professionals from across the Kingdom. In addition to strategic discussions on maximizing the effectiveness of anti-financial crime efforts, the program includes an international masterclass on modern money laundering methods and financial investigation techniques.

With the official opening of this seminar, the government reaffirms the high priority it places on maintaining an innovative, reliable, and resilient financial sector—serving as a foundation for economic development and safeguarding trust in Aruba as an international financial jurisdiction.
