First Multifunctional Sports Facility for Schools Opens at Colegio Santa Filomena

ORANJESTAD – The Ministry of Education and Sports has officially announced that Colegio Santa Filomena is the first school in Aruba to have a new multifunctional sports facility.

The facility gives students the opportunity to play basketball and soccer in their own school environment.

The opening marks the beginning of a larger project. Colegio Santa Filomena is the first in a series of schools across Aruba that will soon also have access to a multifunctional sports facility. The project is being carried out in collaboration with Lotto pa Deporte and other partners, with the shared goal of creating more opportunities for physical activity and sports in schools.

The initiative brings together two important areas: education and sports. By creating accessible sports facilities at schools, students have more opportunities to exercise, participate in recreational activities, and practice different sports during the school day.

“We want to create healthy, recreational, and sports-oriented spaces at our schools where our children can discover and further develop their talents. Sports at school can be the first step toward identifying student-athletes who can excel both locally and internationally in the future,” said Gerlien Croes, Minister of Kingdom Relations, Education, Youth, Innovation and Sports.

The multifunctional sports facility gives students the opportunity to play basketball and soccer at school while also promoting an active lifestyle. The goal is for sports to play an increasingly prominent role in the school environment and to contribute to the academic, social, and physical development of students.

Minister Gerlien Croes emphasizes that Aruba has a great deal of sports talent among its children and youth and that it is important to create the right conditions to ensure that this talent can be discovered and developed from an early age.

With Colegio Santa Filomena as the first school, the project has officially been launched. In the coming period, more schools across Aruba will receive their own multifunctional sports facility.

The Ministry of Education and Sports thanks Lotto pa Deporte, Colegio Santa Filomena, and all partners who contributed to the realization of this initiative.
