ORANJESTAD – In August 2025, Michelle Roos celebrated an impressive milestone: 45 years of dedicated service, making her the longest-serving professional at the National Library of Aruba.

For more than four decades, Michelle has been a cornerstone of the library. She began her career as a balie (front desk) employee and now serves as Head of the Catalog Department. Her expertise, leadership, and commitment to excellence have had a lasting impact on the library, inspiring not only her team but also colleagues across all departments. Michelle’s passion for reading and preserving knowledge is truly remarkable. This celebration honors not only her years of service but also the wisdom and dedication that have defined her career.

Michelle’s journey with the library began in 1980, when a young man full of dreams and ambition joined the Island Government to work at the Public Library of Aruba, then located on Wilhelminastraat in the building that now houses the Algemene Rekenkamer (Audit Office). Just two years later, she experienced the library’s relocation, and on September 1, 1982, the new building at George Madurostraat 13 was officially opened. On March 3, 1986, the library was renamed the National Library of Aruba in a formal ceremony led by Governor F.B. Tromp.

Today, the National Library of Aruba proudly reflects on its 75 years of service to the community, marked by countless initiatives to promote reading and provide access to information for both locals and international visitors. With unwavering enthusiasm, Michelle and her colleagues continue their mission to serve and inspire the people of Aruba.
