Ensure Proper Parking to Avoid Fines

ORANJESTAD – On October 9, the Police Force, together with Aruparking, conducted a parking control operation in Klipstraat to monitor motorists’ parking behavior.

Minister of Justice, mr. drs. Arthur Dowers, accompanied the control team during the operation, in which several motorists received fines for improper parking.

Recently, there has been a noticeable increase in large-scale traffic violations. These violations disrupt traffic flow and pose risks to other road users and pedestrians. The blockage of main traffic arteries has, in some cases, delayed public transport for over twenty minutes and even hindered the passage of ambulances and emergency vehicles. These circumstances have prompted both the police and Aruparking to take firm action.

For several weeks, Aruparking has been running an awareness campaign about proper parking in the city center. The parking process has been streamlined; however, many drivers still disregard traffic regulations. As a result, the police and Aruparking will be intensifying their enforcement efforts to restore order.

Minister Dowers expressed regret that individuals must incur additional costs due to non-compliance with the law but emphasized that the situation cannot be allowed to spiral out of control. During the operation, several vehicles were towed, meaning owners will now have to pay additional fees to retrieve their cars.

The minister stressed that his ministry has no intention of burdening the public with unnecessary expenses, but he assured the community that the government cannot tolerate ongoing disregard for the rules. The recent control focused primarily on illegal parking rather than unpaid parking fees. However, Minister Dowers noted that Aruparking will be stepping up checks on parking payments in the coming weeks. Parking in Aruparking zones without paying can result in fines exceeding 300 florins.

The Minister of Justice urges all motorists to respect traffic laws, park responsibly, and avoid fines or vehicle impoundment.
