Electronic Ankle Monitoring Introduced as of February 2

ORANJESTAD – On January 27, 2026, Minister of Justice Dr. Arthur Dowers received a presentation at the Aruba Foundation for Probation and Youth Protection (Stichting Reclassering en Jeugdbescherming Aruba) on the use of electronic ankle monitors for certain forms of sentencing and supervision.

The presentation focused, among other things, on electronic monitoring. During the session, a modern and innovative system was introduced that is already being used successfully in Curacao.

The UK-based company Buddi presented its electronic monitoring system, which is designed for supervision, tracking, and accountability through the use of advanced technology. The system will officially be implemented on February 2.

In addition to its application within the criminal justice system, electronic monitoring offers broader possibilities that extend beyond sanctions and control alone. The system can also play a valuable role in administrative enforcement by strengthening regulatory compliance and promoting more effective and sustainable oversight.

With this development, the Ministry of Justice continues to implement modern solutions that contribute to a safer and more responsible society.
