DIMAS Temporarily Evacuated Following Possible Gas Contamination

ORANJESTAD – On the morning of Monday, June 15, 2026, an emergency situation occurred at the building housing the Department of Integration, Management and Admission of Foreigners (DIMAS) and the Department of Labor.

An employee of the Department of Labor began feeling unwell, reportedly as a result of possible gas contamination.

Shortly afterward, several other employees of the Department of Labor experienced similar symptoms. Some were transported by ambulance to the hospital for further medical evaluation, while others chose to travel to the hospital on their own for a medical check-up.

Following the initial report, police, ambulance personnel, and firefighters responded to the scene. Emergency responders conducted a thorough assessment of the situation to rule out any potential risk to staff and members of the public in and around the building.

After the assessment, the Fire Department decided to evacuate the entire building for the remainder of Monday, allowing the relevant authorities to continue their investigation and inspect the premises to determine whether any potential hazard exists.

As a result, DIMAS will remain closed for the rest of Monday, June 15, 2026. Normal operations are expected to resume on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, once the competent authorities have confirmed that the building is safe for occupancy.

DIMAS will contact clients who had appointments scheduled for Monday afternoon to reschedule their appointments for Friday.
