Criminal Assets Confiscation Team active at the airport
ORANJESTAD - Last week Afpakteam (Criminal Assets Confiscation Team ), Interpol, and the UMM (Human Smuggling and Human Trafficking Unit), in close cooperation with the AAA (Aruba Airport Authority), carried out integral checks in the private area of the airport.
Angeline Flemming, director of Health, Safety, and Sustainability at the AAA, indicated: "The actions underscore the AAA's goal of promoting safe operations at the airport. Cooperation with local and international law enforcement agencies has been excellent, and joint efforts have had a significant impact. The frequency will increase in the coming months."
The Interception Team is a collaborative effort between various investigative partners, including the prosecution, police, customs, the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), the Royal Military Police (KMar), and the Coast Guard.
It was established in 2017 to combat undermining financial crime more effectively by preventing and detecting money laundering activities and seizing criminally obtained assets. The confiscated assets are deposited in a Country of Aruba special fund to combat crime.
All partners indicated that they will make such integrated checks more frequently.
