Close cooperation between IMSan and HOH is vital for quality medical care.

ORANJESTAD - The Minister of Public Health, Social Affairs, Elderly Care, and Addiction Care, Drs. Mervin Wyatt-Ras conducted a working visit to the San Nicolas Medical Institute on May 15, 2025.

Dr. Joel Rainherc, Director of IMSan, accompanied by the management of IMSan, gave the minister a tour of the medical institute facilities.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Minister Wyatt-Ras received a report from the director regarding IMSan's self-sufficiency, while Dr. Guaica Jimenez presented IMSan's annual report for 2024.

The minister got a tour of the operating room, dialysis department, training center, and emergency care, and was impressed with these facilities and the level of service provided to patients.

Director Rajnherc explained that IMSan is the only medical institute in Aruba with the Gold Seal of Approval of JCI Accreditation, provides ambulance service throughout Aruba, and has the only center of ophthalmology (oogheelkunde) and radiotherapy in Aruba. Furthermore, IMSan has a privileged position thanks to its collaboration with Baptist Medical of the United States, which offers assistance, particularly for cancer patients receiving radiation therapy. These show the key and necessary position of IMSan in medical care in Aruba, for which IMSan must be given the right to exist as an independent medical institute.

The main topic discussed with IMSan is the cooperation level that must be extended further with Horacio Oduber Hospital. For the benefit of medical care in Aruba, these two institutions must complement each other and not take a competitive position. Each of these institutions has its value, authentic identity, and warmth. We must raise the quality of care in Aruba and open space for much more collaboration and exchange of specialists to provide care closer to the community. It is essential to keep the principal objective central, namely, quality and dignified medical care for every citizen.

Minister Wyatt-Ras aims to enhance medical care to ensure its sustainability and high quality. She believes that, with the collaboration of all healthcare providers, this objective can be successfully realized.
