Book collection at Horacio Oduber Hospital
ORANJESTAD - The National Library of Aruba is helping to expand the hospital's book collection for anyone who wants to read, whether it is a patient, colleague, or visitor.
Patients, visitors, and employees enjoy reading during their wait times. Various donations maintain the book collection, to which the National Library of Aruba contributes a significant part.
Mark Veenendaal, an employee in the hospital's radiology department, initiated this project by creating a book corner for the chapel located within the radiology department. He does this with a librarian. Mark finds it essential to offer books to patients and believes that reading stories gives an escape.
When patients are in the hospital, the situation can be stressful; they may feel uncomfortable or not know how to 'kill time.' Reading can make time pass faster and also stimulate the mind. And if they can not leave their room for a while, they can always ask a colleague in the department for help with bringing literature. They can borrow the books for free that are accessible to everyone. The idea is to make it a library for exchanging literature. You can take and give books and borrow and return them. It automatically updates the collection.
The collection is extensive, including books and magazines for young people and adults. At the Horacio Oduber Hospital, they are happy that this book service can continue after many years, and they hope that everyone who visits the hospital can enjoy its beautiful book collection.
