A.T.A. honored three exceptional people from the tourism industry during AGTC 2026

ORANJESTAD — During the Aruba Global Travel Conference (AGTC) on September 15, the Aruba Tourism Authority (A.T.A.) honored three individuals working in the tourism industry as the Local Vacation Heroes for 2026.

Maidel Yero, John Marvin Kelly, and Jandor Lampe, each with many years of experience in the tourism sector, were recognized for their positive impact, dedication, and contribution to our tourism industry.

This year’s three winners represent different areas of the industry:

  • Maidel Yero: With 24 years of experience in tourism, she works in Activities & Entertainment at Playa Linda Beach Resort and is known for the passion and heart she dedicates to her work, creating memorable experiences for adults and children.
  • Jandor Lampe: A bartender at La Cabana Beach Resort & Casino with 28 years in the tourism industry, he is known for his positive energy, contagious enthusiasm, and the friendly way he treats his guests.
  • John Marvin Kelly: Better known as "Uncle Johnny," he is a tour guide at ABC Tours with more than 40 years of experience in tourism. He is recognized for treating each guest like family, working with dedication and commitment.

All three share a great love for Aruba.

For the third year in a row, the Nominate Your Local Vacation Hero campaign gives guests the opportunity to nominate locals who have made a difference during their stay in Aruba. In just three weeks, we received more than 160 nominations from guests who shared stories about acts of kindness, care, and authentic connections facilitated by locals who made their stay special.

What makes this recognition even more special and meaningful is that the nominations do not come from A.T.A., but directly from the guests themselves. Through their personal experiences, they express appreciation and recognition for the people who made their stay more memorable and strengthened their connection with Aruba. More than just a destination, Aruba becomes a place that visitors learn to know, appreciate, and care for, thanks to the relationships they form during their stay.

During the three editions of the campaign, more than 400 nominations have been received. To select the winners, a committee reviews and evaluates all submissions based on established criteria. As the tourism industry includes many different professions and departments, three winners are chosen each year to represent the diverse ways our industry professionals contribute to the visitor experience.

"This recognition celebrates the people who, day after day, provide the service, care, and hospitality that Aruba is known for. On behalf of A.T.A., we thank not only this year's winners, but also all those who work in our tourism industry and contribute to creating the authentic connections that stay with our visitors," said Ronella Croes, CEO of A.T.A.

A.T.A. congratulates our three Local Vacation Heroes for 2026 and thanks them for their valuable contribution to our tourism industry. A big thank you also goes out to all professionals in the tourism sector who work daily with love and dedication. Our people are the strength behind our industry and what makes Aruba a unique destination.
