Aruba’s Role in Complying with the UNESCO Convention Against Doping in Sport

ORANJESTAD — Minister of Kingdom Relations, Education, Youth, Innovation, and Sport, Ms. Gerlien Croes, recently met with the National Compliance Platform (NCP) to discuss a fundamental issue for sports in Aruba: anti-doping.

The meeting focused on Aruba’s role in complying with the UNESCO Convention Against Doping in Sport and on the importance of continuing to promote a clean, healthy, and fair sporting culture.

During the meeting, the action plan was presented to raise awareness in schools, sports clubs, and among athletes, as well as to strengthen legislation and control over products entering Aruba. The goal is to ensure that Aruban athletes compete in a safe and fair environment, while the country continues to meet international standards for clean sport.

Minister Croes expressed her appreciation for the dedication of the NCP, which has been active since 2024, and for its ongoing commitment to the well-being of Aruba’s athletes and society as a whole.

“We must continue to work proactively to build a healthy and ethical sports culture. Education, guidance, and awareness are key to achieving this,” said Minister Croes.

The minister also shared that, as of 2025, UNESCO has declared Aruba “compliant” with the Convention, an achievement of national pride. However, she emphasized that there are still areas for improvement to which the NCP has committed to giving priority.

The platform also aims to introduce anti-doping education into the school curriculum to help shape a generation of conscious and responsible athletes.

Finally, the NCP plans to organize an Anti-Doping Symposium in 2026 in collaboration with the Aruban Olympic Committee (COA), another step forward in promoting integrity, respect, and health in sports.
