Aruban Government Honors Portuguese Community During Camoes Day Celebration

ORANJESTAD—On Tuesday, June 10, the annual Camoes Day celebration took place in Wilhelmina Park.

The celebration, which honors Portugal's cultural heritage, patriotism, and national values, brought together political leaders, the President of Parliament, the Consular Corps, the Honorary Consul of Portugal, and prominent members of the Portuguese community in Aruba.

Prime Minister Mike Eman, representing the Aruban government, expressed his deep respect and admiration for the Portuguese community in Aruba, who immigrated more than 60 years ago and built a new life on our island. Many Portuguese immigrants from Madeira, built a future in Aruba based on hard work, faith, and love, a legacy that lives on today in the new generations.

The Aruban government recognizes that the Portuguese community has made a fundamental contribution to every aspect of our island's development. From leadership positions in government, justice, education, and culture to infrastructure and the economy, Portuguese talent has contributed to the development of Aruba today. Aruba is honored to have a community with dedication, discipline, and love for our island.

The celebration of Camões Day is a powerful reminder of how migrants contribute positively to a community. The Aruban government reaffirms its commitment to honor and integrate the values that communities like Portugal bring and to continue to work together to create a more just, prosperous, and inclusive future for all who have made Aruba their home.
