Aruba Welcomes Virgin Voyages’ Brilliant Lady on Its Inaugural Visit

ORANJESTAD – The Aruba Tourism Authority (A.T.A.) and the Aruba Ports Authority N.V. (APA N.V.) proudly welcomed Virgin Voyages’ newest adults-only cruise ship, the Brilliant Lady, during its inaugural visit to Aruba.

The arrival marks a significant milestone for Aruba’s cruise tourism sector and coincides with the official start of the island’s beloved Carnival season, one of the most anticipated cultural celebrations of the year.

A Celebration of Partnership and Culture

A distinguished delegation was on hand to commemorate the occasion, including Mr. Wendrick Cicilia, Minister of Tourism, Transport, and Labor; Ms. Ronella Croes, CEO of the Aruba Tourism Authority; and Mr. Marc Figaroa, CEO of the Aruba Ports Authority N.V.

They were joined by key government officials, representatives from A.T.A. and APA N.V., tour operators, the Police Force Aruba, Port Agent SEL Maduro & Sons, the Department of Immigration, and other essential cruise partners.

In true Aruban spirit, the celebration featured a festive Carnival welcome complete with dancers and live music — a fitting tribute to the island’s vibrant culture.

About Brilliant Lady

Brilliant Lady is the fourth ship in Virgin Voyages’ award-winning fleet, joining Scarlet Lady, Valiant Lady, and Resilient Lady. The vessel accommodates approximately 2,770 passengers and 1,150 crew members and has a gross tonnage of around 110,000 tons.

As part of Virgin Voyages’ adults-only luxury concept, Brilliant Lady redefines the cruise experience with cutting-edge design, immersive entertainment, and world-class culinary offerings.

A Shared Commitment to Sustainability

Sustainability is at the heart of Virgin Voyages’ philosophy — and Brilliant Lady is a reflection of that commitment.

The ship incorporates advanced environmental technologies, including:

  • Emission reduction systems meeting Tier III MARPOL standards, with selective catalytic reduction (NOx) and SOx scrubbers.
  • Complete elimination of single-use plastics.
  • Comprehensive waste management, with recycling and treatment systems.
  • Energy-efficient design, featuring LED lighting and smart sensors.
  • Shore power capability for clean energy use in equipped ports.
  • Responsible dining initiatives, eliminating buffets and reducing food waste while optimizing freshwater use.

During the visit, delegates toured the vessel and learned how Virgin Voyages partners with local suppliers to create low-impact shore excursions. These experiences prioritize sustainability, promote environmental awareness, and strengthen connections with the Aruban community.

This alignment underscores Aruba’s broader sustainability goals and strengthens its partnership with Virgin Voyages — fostering shared learning, innovation, and long-term collaboration for a more sustainable future.

Plaque Exchange Ceremony

The visit was highlighted by a traditional plaque exchange ceremony, commemorating Brilliant Lady’s inaugural call to Aruba. The exchange between Captain Niksa Stjepovic and representatives of A.T.A. and APA N.V. symbolized mutual trust, collaboration, and a shared vision for sustainable tourism growth.

Looking Ahead

The Government of Aruba, A.T.A., and APA N.V. remain committed to working hand in hand with Virgin Voyages to enhance cruise operations, champion sustainability, and ensure that tourism continues to deliver meaningful benefits for Aruba’s people and environment.
