Aruba Tourism Authority honors Massive Brass Band during Lighting Parade.

This is an old post.

ORANJESTAD – Recently, the Aruba Tourism Authority (ATA) honored the Massive Brass Band for contributing to Aruba’s musical tradition, known as Asambeho.

Founded in 2015 under the leadership of Roderich Lopez, Massive Brass Band has become an essential part of Asambeho’s musical history in Aruba, with a strong presence at local festivals, Aruba’s Carnival parades, the Island Festival in San Nicolas, and more.

This year marks the first time that Massive Brass Band has had the honor of opening the Carnival parades. ATA acknowledges the pioneers of this modern and authentic rhythm of Asambeho, which was founded in the 1960s by Arnold Beide, Alfonso ‘Bulto’ Gibs, and Samuel Hodge. Additionally, ATA recognizes all those who have continued this tradition, including bands such as Excelsior Brass Band, YMCA Brass Band, Brass Explosion, San Fernando Brothers, Savaneta Brass, The Blue Diamond Brass, Daimari Brass, Good Guys, Academy Brass Intl, Gramling Brass, Jamming Brass, Shiribana Brass Band, Hotel All Stars, Rufo All Stars, Royal Stars, Hell’s Angels, Born Losers, The Out Laws, Kids of Fame, DuziDuzi Brass, Little Devil, Dynamic Brass, Energy Brass, Savage Brass, MoonDogs, D2U-365, Quality Brass Band, Aruba Angels Brass Band, Bad Boys Brass Band, and more.

Although Asambeho was once a dominant musical style, it faced challenges due to the introduction of amplified and electronic music and changing musical trends. It has only reinforced the importance of preserving and reviving this genre. With determination and visibility on the local scene, Massive Brass Band brought Asambeho to an international platform, performing at major events such as Ahoy Rotterdam, the Nijmegen Marathon, and Zomercarnaval in Rotterdam. Additionally, they have performed at Magic Kingdom in Orlando, Florida, and most recently at the Gasparilla Parade in Tampa, Florida, which has led to their recognition as Massive Brass Band International.

ATA congratulates and thanks Massive Brass Band for their efforts in preserving and promoting Aruba’s authentic cultural heritage.
