Aruba Digitizes Its Budgeting Process
ORANJESTAD – The Ministry of Finance, Economic Affairs and Primary Sector announced that on January 13, the Council of Ministers approved the digitization of Aruba’s budget preparation and amendment process.
This project is part of the Financial Management Theme of the Reform Package (Landspakket). With financial support from the Netherlands, a new ICT system will be introduced to help improve how the national budget is prepared and updated. The new system will help better align public spending with policy goals and implementation.
The next step is to send a plan of approach to TWO Netherlands and formally request a grant of €174,100 to cover costs in 2026. After that, the Department of Finance will begin the procurement process.
The system is expected to be implemented in the first half of 2026. Training will be provided to staff of the Department of Finance, and the system will be partly used for preparing the 2026 budget.
Minister of Finance, Economic Affairs and Primary Sector Geoffrey Wever thanked the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Finance for their cooperation with the Netherlands. He emphasized that close cooperation between ministers, departments, and the Netherlands will help improve Aruba’s budgeting process and support the country’s development.
To promote transparency, Minister Wever has asked Parliament to hold a public meeting to inform all members about the progress of projects aimed at strengthening Aruba’s budget cycle.
