Aruba and Curaçao Celebrate an Evening of Friendship and Cooperation
ORANJESTAD – Aruba and Curaçao recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) focused on tourism, connectivity, tourism safety, and sustainable development.
The special event brought together government representatives, key stakeholders in the tourism sector, and guests to celebrate the growing relationship between the two sister islands. Aruba and Curaçao are connected by a shared history, culture, and a common vision for the future.
The evening began with welcoming remarks from Aruba Ports Authority (APA) CEO Marc Figaroa. This was followed by addresses from Parliament Chairman Marlon Sneek, parliamentary faction leader Jennifer Arends-Reyes, Aruba’s Minister of Tourism, Transport and Labor Wendrick Cicilia, and Curaçao’s Minister of Economic Development Roderick Middelhof. In their remarks, they emphasized the importance of regional cooperation, inter-island connectivity, and the value of further strengthening the unique relationship that Aruba and Curaçao have shared for generations.
The recently signed Memorandum of Understanding reflects a joint commitment to enhancing cooperation in areas such as tourism, air and maritime connectivity, tourism promotion, visitor safety, sustainability, knowledge exchange, and economic development.
One of the evening’s most memorable highlights was a spectacular video mapping presentation honoring Curaçao and its historic qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. Projected onto the APA tank, the visual display illuminated the night with images and symbols celebrating this remarkable achievement by our sister island on the world stage.
The presentation celebrated not only the sport of soccer but also the pride, perseverance, and sense of unity shared by Aruba and Curaçao as two islands with deep ties throughout the Caribbean.
Minister Cicilia underscored the importance of continued collaboration in creating new opportunities for both islands.
“Aruba and Curaçao share much more than geographic proximity. We share history, culture, friendship, and a common commitment to advancing the well-being of our people. This partnership reflects our belief that we are stronger together and can achieve more for our communities through cooperation.”
