Aruba Airport Authority Signs New Ground Handling Concession Agreements

ORANJESTAD — Aruba Airport Authority N.V. (AAA), operator of Queen Beatrix International Airport, has signed new Ground Handling Concession agreements with its two ground handling service providers: Aviation Ground Services N.V. dba Swissport (AGS) and General Air Services Inc. (GenAir).

These agreements establish a standardized and updated framework for ground handling services at the airport.

Following a comprehensive review of existing ground handling operations, AAA chose to extend its partnership with both established providers rather than initiate a new selection process. This renewal process offered an opportunity to build on these long-standing relationships while introducing an updated framework aligned with the airport’s current and future operational requirements.

The new agreements are the result of extensive consultations and negotiations between AAA and both partners. They reflect the continuous evolution of airport operations, safety, security, service quality, and environmental sustainability.

Ground handling is a critical component of airport operations, encompassing a wide range of activities that support airlines and passengers before and after every flight.

Consequently, the new agreements place strong emphasis on:

  • Maintaining high operational and safety standards
  • Ensuring well-trained personnel
  • Investing in and properly maintaining Ground Service Equipment (GSE)
  • Meeting performance benchmarks and regulatory requirements

Looking to the future, both ground handling providers have committed to GSE equipment upgrade and investment plans, including a progressive transition toward lower-emission and electric equipment. AAA will support this transition by incorporating the necessary airport infrastructure into its broader development and sustainability goals.

The signing of these agreements further strengthens the long-standing collaboration between AAA and its ground handling partners, reflecting a shared commitment to the safe and sustainable growth of Aruba's aviation sector.

The new Ground Handling Concession Agreements will take effect on January 1, 2027.
