Apply for a Scholarship for an Internship in Washington, D.C.

ORANJESTAD — In 2027, students with Dutch nationality once again have the opportunity to receive a scholarship to travel to Washington, D.C., for two months (June and July 2027) to participate in the program offered by "The Fund for American Studies" (TFAS).

Interested students must apply by October 8.

The program includes a two-month internship in the political capital of the United States, courses at George Mason University, visits to federal government agencies and embassies, and various networking activities where participants meet influential leaders in Washington, D.C.

This scholarship is also open to students from Aruba who are currently studying in Aruba, the Netherlands, or any other university. The Netherlands-America Foundation (NAF) makes this possible as part of its mission to promote exchange between the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the United States.

Since taking office in Washington, D.C., Minister Plenipotentiary Zulema Dabian-Erasmus has actively cultivated a close relationship with TFAS and the NAF. Her efforts aim to promote this program to students from Aruba while connecting the Aruban business community with the NAF. Organizations such as Embassy Suites, Renaissance Wind Creek Aruba Resort, and Artisa have previously sponsored NAF events in the United States.

Aruban students who have previously participated in the Washington, D.C. program include Evanee Giel of Leiden University in 2025 and Jurstin Paesch of the University of Aruba in 2026. Both students expanded their professional networks in Washington, D.C. and walked away with a truly unique experience.

The Minister Plenipotentiary in the United States encourages eligible students to apply for this scholarship no later than October 8. The opportunity is open to undergraduate and graduate students interested in spending June and July 2027 exploring a new city, meeting new people, gaining valuable field experience, and enhancing their résumés through a short-term internship facilitated by TFAS.
