Annual conference of the Association of Caribbean Commissioners of Police (ACCP)
ORANJESTAD - Recently, Aruba Police Chief of Police Ramon Arnhem attended the annual conference of the Association of Caribbean Commissioners of Police (ACCP).
This year's conference took place in Belize. ACCP conference takes place every spring in a selected country within the region, and the pre-conference meeting in Miami in the fall.
Last week's conference included several presentations and discussions about security issues in the various member countries. The Aruban police chief gave a presentation on transnational crime (Undermining) in the region. He is the portfolio holder of Undermining on behalf of the Board of Chiefs of Police of the Caribbean part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Undermining, sometimes called transnational crime, is heavily organized crime in which criminals use and abuse society to realize their criminal activities. Undermining includes money laundering, human trafficking, human smuggling, and real estate fraud, which often operate across national borders and involve criminals from different countries.
In his presentation, Arnhem stated that strategic and operational cooperation between police forces and partners within and outside the region and the information and intelligence exchange is necessary for effectively combating and undermining crime. "Criminals work well together and do not respect national borders. Hence, we need to work together even better and more innovatively," said the chief of police of the Aruba Police Department.
The ACCP conference aims to exchange knowledge and insights in tackling security issues the member countries face.
Twenty-four chiefs of police participated in this conference, and FBI, Interpol, RSS, Impacs, US Homeland Security, NCA UK, and RMP representatives.
