Agencies Unite for National Day to Care Aruba: Cleanliness, Safety and Health Are Priorities
ORANJESTAD — For the second edition of National Day to Care Aruba, scheduled for Saturday, August 29, 2026, various agencies and partners are once again joining forces to provide the community with the necessary facilities to dispose of waste.
The joint effort also aims to ensure that the cleanup takes place in an organized and safe manner. More information about the Cuida Aruba initiative is available at www.cuidaaruba.com.
During a recent press conference, representatives of WEB, CMO, BCI, DVG/GKMB, DTI and KPA shared practical information with the community, each from their respective areas of responsibility.
WEB Supports the Continuation of Cuida Aruba
WEB Director, Ing. Alfredo Koolman indicated that following an evaluation of the request to support the initiative, WEB has decided to contribute to Cuida Aruba.
WEB already participated in the previous action in July. According to Koolman, the organization has also committed to supporting the next four editions.
Six Collection Points Available Across Aruba
To bring the service closer to the community, six locations will be available on Saturday for residents to deliver their waste:
- Veld di Trupial (Trupial Field), near San Nicolas Medical Center
- Baseball field in Pos Chikito/Burubundo
- Waste Zone at EcoTech Barcadera
- Arsenal Field (Veld di Arsenal) in Santa Cruz
- Harbor Arena in Oranjestad
- Field near Colegio Ora Ubao in Tanki Leendert
The distribution of these locations allows residents from different parts of Aruba to have a collection point closer to home.
Safety Is Everyone’s Responsibility
Director of the Crisis Management Office (CMO), Rino Hermans, emphasized the importance of safety during the action. He urged the community to separate waste properly, ensure that loads are securely covered and fastened during transportation, and use appropriate personal protective equipment while working.
Assistance will also be available in case of emergencies, with Red Cross volunteers present to provide support.
Acting Director of the Department of Technical Inspections (DTI), Richella Dorothal, reinforced the message of prevention, particularly for volunteers who will be actively involved in the cleanup. She recommended wearing closed-toe shoes and gloves when necessary, as well as appropriate protection when working at heights.
The goal is for the community to participate enthusiastically while ensuring that neither participants nor others are placed at risk.
KPA: Transport Waste Safely
Police Force (KPA) spokeswoman Liliana Rasmijn focused on traffic safety and maintaining order at the collection points.
KPA asks the community not to overload vehicles and to properly secure and cover waste before entering the road. Any objects extending from vehicles must be properly marked so that other road users can identify potential hazards in time.
At the collection points, KPA asks participants to follow the instructions of those responsible for coordination and to respect the queue. Neighborhood police officers will be present at the various locations to assist with coordination, public order and safety.
A Clean Aruba Is Also a Healthier Aruba
From a public health perspective, Jurette Croes, spokeswoman for DVG/GKMB, emphasized that the action provides an important opportunity to clean up yards, areas around homes and other spaces where materials and waste may accumulate.
During the rainy season, containers and other objects that collect water can become breeding grounds for mosquitoes, increasing the risk of mosquito-borne diseases.
Accumulated waste can also attract mice, rats, cockroaches and other pests, creating unhygienic conditions around homes and in neighborhoods.
The community is therefore encouraged to take advantage of Saturday’s initiative—not only to contribute to a cleaner and more beautiful island, but also to help protect the health of their families and communities.
Cleanliness, but With Order and Responsibility
The joint message from the authorities is clear: participate, but do so safely and responsibly. Prepare waste properly, transport it safely, protect yourself while working, and follow the instructions provided at the collection points.
With six locations distributed across Aruba and various agencies mobilizing to support the initiative, National Day to Care Aruba on Saturday, August 29, once again gives the community a concrete opportunity to contribute.
The goal is a shared one: a cleaner, safer and healthier Aruba for everyone.
This cooperation is part of a broader effort to bring the public sector and other partners together around a common goal: creating the conditions for Cuida Aruba to continue taking place on a periodic basis.
