AFTA Presents Annual Report 2024.
ORANJESTAD - On June 5, 2025, Minister of Finance, Economic Affairs, and Primary Sector, Mr. Geoffrey Wever, met with the Board of Directors of the Aruba Fair Trade Authority (AFTA).
MMinister Wever received the 2024 AFTA annual report, including its 2024 yearly account with an approved audit report from an independent auditor.
AFTA was established on January 1, 2024, by the Ministry of Economic Affairs to promote fair competition among companies. On January 1, 2024, the Competition Regulation (CRO) became operative to make the market equitable. AFTA is a separate organization with authority and tools of action that function without interference from the Aruban government.
The AFTA Board of Directors includes Mr. Roly Sint Jago as chairman and Mr. M. Snoep and Mr. M. Visser as members. Mr. Snoep is the Dutch Authority for Consumer and Market (ACM)'s chairman.
The Ministry of Finance, Economic Affairs, and Primary Sector prioritizes consumer rights, protection, and the creation of an equitable and effective market for all consumers. That is why Minister Wever recently, jointly with AFTA, drafted the National Consumer Protection Enforcement Regulation, which they will discuss in the Second Chamber in a few weeks. AFTA is hereby empowered to protect the consumer from unfair practices.
"I am very pleased with AFTA's progress in creating a fair market for our community and all citizens. Virtually every modern country has an authority for fair competition, and we can be proud that Aruba has one as well." Minister Wever said.
