A small act, but a big impact

ORANJESTAD -  Aruba is experiencing rainy days, and as we know, it is a blessing, but it also poses a threat to one’s health when water remains standing around the home.

When rainwater, or any fresh water, stands, it becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes. The more water is left stagnant around the home, the greater the population of mosquitoes. This eventually becomes a problem for the neighbors and finally the community. Thus, increasing the possibility of transmission of blood-borne diseases such as Dengue, Zika, Chikungunya, or Yellow Fever.

It is the responsibility of each of us as citizens to keep our property and living area clean of stagnant water. This is first for the safety of our own family, and then for the well-being of the community and the entire island. By pouring out all the water that remains after raining, you are making a small but significant contribution to your community's well-being.

Your health is your responsibility. Take steps to protect yourself from blood-borne diseases.
