26 Tax Professionals Earn Diploma in Basic Taxation Program

ORANJESTAD – On February 20, 2026, the official diploma ceremony took place for the Basic Taxation Program, an intensive training course for professionals of the Tax Department.

No fewer than 26 employees successfully completed the program, which began in October 2024 and concluded in December 2025. Participants attended classes three times per week in addition to their regular working hours, demonstrating exceptional dedication to professional development and continuous improvement.

The Minister of Finance, Economic Affairs and Primary Sector, Mr. Geoffrey Wever, spoke on this occasion about his commitment to and passion for tax law. He emphasized that tax collection is not merely a technical mechanism for generating revenue, but a fundamental pillar of sound and sustainable public finances.

“A country’s tax system is built on trust. To safeguard that trust, we need professionals with solid knowledge of the law, integrity, and a people-centered, service-oriented attitude. The way we communicate and interact with citizens is just as important as the correct application of the law,” Minister Wever stated.

He further underscored that the role of a tax professional requires more than technical expertise alone. It calls for passion for the profession, social awareness, and the ability to apply the law in a careful and supportive manner. He also noted that the government continues to invest in process improvements, including digitalization and online systems, which will contribute to more efficient and transparent tax administration. According to Minister Wever, continuous professional development is essential to keep pace with technological advancements and changes in tax legislation.

“Continue to develop yourself and invest in your own growth. Innovation and modernization of the Tax Department are directly linked to the educational level of our professionals. Investing in knowledge is investing in the future of Aruba,” Minister Wever concluded.

Finally, Minister Wever expressed his appreciation to the Director of the Tax Department, Ms. Luenne Gomez-Pieters, and her team for organizing the Basic Taxation Program.
