ORANJESTAD - The Government of Aruba declared April as the National Month of Awareness against Child Abuse some time ago.

During this month, the aim is to raise awareness in the community about the issue of child abuse and sexual abuse of children and organize various activities to start discussions on this topic.
To conclude the month against child abuse, it organizes a National Forum on Child Abuse, broadcast live on TeleAruba on April 30, 2024, from 8:30 pm to 10:30 pm. The community can ask questions during the forum and send them via WhatsApp to +297 5972323.

The forum will feature several speakers from various institutions, including:

  • Glendeline Maldonado; Social Worker / Pedagogue / Education;
  • Suzette Kock; Lawyer;
  • Johnny Boekhoudt; Pro Justitia Rapporteur / Forensic Care and Mental Health Working Group / Clinical & Forensic Psychologist / Youth / OC;
  • Phil Godoy; Psychologist / MDFT therapist / FSMA Support;
  • Juan Gomes; Researcher / JZP / Justice;
  • Janice Hooft; Doctor / Red Cross & JGZ at DVG.
  • The moderator is Jonathan Trinidad, MBA / Consultant / Education.

Although April is coming to an end, the Government will continue to work throughout the year with all relevant institutions in this field and urges the community to actively participate in the fight against child abuse, as in most abuse cases, the perpetrator is someone close to the family. Together, we can protect our children.
